Have your house and garden dancing with Candy Dancer. Just a brush of the deeply cut leaves will release the sweet fragrance that will have you twirling. Flowering intermittently throughout the summer, these are great for patio containers and kitchen windowsills alike. Originating in South Africa, explorers brought scented geraniums to Holland and Europe in 1632. They made it to America with the settlers and are enjoying a renewed interest with many gardeners. A large form of Pelargoium radens, Dr. Livingston has rough, bristly leaves that are finely cut--very ferny. When rubbed or brushed the leaves of this handsome scented geranium give off a strong odor of citronella. Although many nurseries claim this plant will repel mosquitos don't expect the insects to drop from the sky as they fly by. Instead, rub the leaves on your exposed skin while you work in the garden to keep mosquitos from bothering you. Like other scented geraniums, Citronella requires a sunny spot and well drained soil. Medium green, rounded leaves; Bicolor pink/lilac flowers. Often planted with Citrosa for maximum mosquito-repelling effect.
