Scented Geraniums Gallery - Installment 2

Dr. Hwei-Yiing Johnson and I are working on a book about Scented Geraniums, and have been experimenting with various ways to present photos of the varieties.  Here are a couple of formats we are considering:

I guess I'd go with the first one even though I like the overall effect of the second. The reason I like the first one is that it offers a better look at the individual leaf and flower.

I find the second approach more attractive than the one with a white background. It allows you to show more of the mother plant. Very nice idea!

The layout on the bottom one looks more professional, though I like the flower picture on the top one better. Seems crisper and more close up. The other thing I like about the top one is the idea of the ruler -though at this size it's impossible to really see the inches.

I like the Apricot version. It highlights the flower and the leaf shape. Both of those pictures really stand out. Although the large pciture of the Filbert is nice also.

Dear Papa,

I like the white spaces around the pictures better. I feel it adds more clarity and is great for this first-year bifocal wearer.

They both have positive aspects, but I'm agreeing with the majority so far: The top photo (Apricot) seems the better because the thumbnails are larger. Good job on all of it!

The second example looks more typical of what one would see in a reference volume, in that it fills the page. I prefer the first example as it provides larger images of the leaf and flower. Perhaps another alternative is to keep the format of the second example, but zoom in the photos of the flower and leaf a bit more.

First one is far easier to see. I prefer to see color and shape. You could put something well known like coke can next to plant to relate to size. or another well known plant like african violet.

I can see the first one best. I too prefer to see color and shape. You could put the ruler next to the leaf closeup.

I'm definitely a fan of #1 - Apricot. To make the layout flow better - I would crop the overall image, or take a new picture "portrait" style, so that it fits in the space better. Just my two cents... Looks like I'm a couple years late to comment though. :)
